TOOLEY'S BOATYARD LIMITED

Working Continuously Since 1778

Tooley's Boatyard is situated in the heart of Banbury on the South Oxford Canal, this has one of the oldest working dry docks on the Inland Waterways, working continuously since 1778. The site also includes a blacksmith's forge and carpenter's workshop used for building traditional wooden boats.

Tooley's Boatyard Limited is the commercial arm of Tooley's Boatyard and is responsible for providing services for boats and boaters. This includes repair and maintenance of boats of all ages and types inside and out. See our Services page for more details.

Tooley`s Boatyard Limited provides specialist services and sales for boaters including boat building and repairs, painting, blacking, chandlery, training and certification in boat handling etc.

As the commercial arm, Tooley's Boatyard Limited are proud to continue the tradition of boat building and repair - especially of wooden boats to help retain the skills for the future.

Duck and Forge


Narrowboat Dancing Duck is available for self-drive hire or skippered trips. Short canal boat trips of around 3/4 hr from the centre of Banbury are available most Saturdays throughout the summer.

The Forge is in a traditional blacksmiths workshop where parts for boats are made as well as items for sale in the shop. The Forge building is a scheduled Ancient Monument.

Blacksmith experience and tuition in the forge can be booked by members of the public.

Tooley’s Boatyard Trust supports the history and heritage of the site and provides attractions for the general public.
